As a Workday Functional Lead (Payroll, Time & Absence) – Software Engineer III, you’ll play a critical role in shaping the future of our Human Capital Systems. You’ll design, configure, implement, and maintain Workday Payroll & Time/Absence modules that drive efficiency and scalability across the organization. In this role, you’ll collaborate closely with HR, IT, and key stakeholders to turn complex business requirements into streamlined, high-quality Workday solutions—ensuring compliance and delivering an exceptional experience for our teams.This is a fully on-site position based in Atlanta, with additional working locations in Charlotte, NC; Raleigh, NC; Richmond, VA; Dallas, TX; or Greensboro, NC. Teammates are expected to be in the office five days a week, collaborating closely in an environment where ideas thrive and solutions are built together.
Key Responsibilities
Serve as the primary point of contact for Workday configuration - Payroll & Time/Absence processes.
Design, configure, test, and deploy Workday configuration changes.
Maintain accurate documentation of system configurations and processes.
Partner with HR and business teams to gather requirements and design solutions.
Identify and drive quality and efficiency improvement opportunities.
Troubleshoot and resolve Workday configuration-related issues.
Ensure that all changes comply with technology policies and requirements.
Identify, escalate, and remediate risks and comply will risk management standards.
Manage and implement Workday configuration changes, ensuring compliance with established policies and governance frameworks.
Partner with business and technology teams to evaluate project requirements and determine appropriate Workday modifications.
Support ongoing operations by troubleshooting and resolving issues in a timely manner.
Collaborate with Workday functional and technical teams to ensure seamless integration of changes across modules and functions.
Participate in audits, control reviews, and risk assessments related to assigned functional area.
Provide guidance and best practices to business partners.

Bachelor’s Degree and three to five years of experience or equivalent education and software engineering training or experience
In-depth knowledge in information systems and ability to identify, apply, and implement best practices
Understanding of key business processes and competitive strategies related to the IT function
Ability to plan and manage projects and solve complex problems by applying best practices
Ability to provide direction and mentor less experienced teammates. Ability to interpret and convey complex, difficult, or sensitive information.
Strong attention to detail.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Effective time management and prioritization.
Preferred:
Broader understanding of Workday functional areas (e.g., HCM) to better align with business needs.
Prior experience in a regulated or financial services environment.
Demonstrated ability to identify process improvements and implement best practices in security management
5+ years of hands-on Workday experience.
Strong understanding of Workday business processes for assigned functional area.
Familiarity with compliance and audit processes, preferably within a financial institution.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
Ability to work effectively with multiple business units and technical teams.
