Neurology - Ophthalmology

Piedmont Healthcare is seeking a highly qualified Neuro-Ophthalmologist to join our growing, nationally recognized Neuroscience Service Line. This physician will provide comprehensive evaluation and management of visual disorders related to neurologic disease, collaborating closely with neurology, neurosurgery, stroke, neuro-oncology, neuroimmunology, neuro-otology, and primary care teams throughout the health system.

The Neuro-Ophthalmologist will play a key role in building and expanding a regional neuro-ophthalmology program that supports patients with complex visual and neurologic conditions while advancing clinical excellence, education, research, and multidisciplinary care. Neuro-ophthalmology is recognized within neurology subspecialties as focusing on diseases of the nervous system that affect the eyes and vision.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate patients with complex visual symptoms, optic nerve disorders, and ocular motility issues.
  • Interpret diagnostic tests including visual fields, OCT, electroretinography, MRIs, and CT scans.
  • Develop treatment plans involving medical management, prisms, or coordination for surgical interventions.
  • Participate in teaching residents, fellows, and medical students (if in an academic setting).
  • Maintain documentation in compliance with hospital and electronic health records (EHR) standards.

Required Qualifications:

  • Medical Degree: MD or DO from an accredited institution.
  • Residency: Completed residency in Ophthalmology or Neurology.
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible In Ophthalmology or Neurology.
  • Fellowship: Completed a 1- or 2-year North American Neuro-Ophthalmology Society (NANOS) approved fellowship.
  • Board Eligibility/Certification: Board-certified or board-eligible in Neurology or Ophthalmology.
  • Licensure: Eligible for an unrestricted medical license in the state of Georgia.
  • APP supervision required
