Job Summary

This position follows a hybrid schedule of 4 days in office and 1 day remote.

This Safety & Health Specialist position is responsible for the company’s overall management of safety-based data with the primary goal of managing, interpreting, and presenting information in a manner that meets regulatory compliance while strengthening the company’s Safety First core value through data.

The successful candidate is expected to leverage modern data tools and emerging technologies to drive deeper insights and operational efficiencies. The ideal candidate will be highly data- and technology-savvy, with experience developing robust dashboards and visualizations, and a functional understanding of artificial intelligence (AI) and advanced analytics to identify trends, predict risk, and inform proactive safety initiatives.

A successful candidate that is awarded an Exempt 5 level (senior) will also provide occupational safety support for select corporate business units, only after establishing data management systems that are self-sustaining.

This corporate role involves approximately 85% analytical/office-based safety tasks and 15% field-based tasks, supporting employees across all of Southern Company Gas, minus Nicor.

Major Job Responsibilities

  • Lead OSHA Recordkeeping compliance program including tracking/reporting of safety incidents ( i.e., workplace injuries, vehicle accidents)

  • Collaborate with Claims/Medical Management to acquire information needed to properly classify incidents

  • Review and analyze safety-related data (workplace injuries, vehicle accidents, etc.) to identify trends, and opportunities for risk mitigation.

  • Develop interactive dashboards, automated reporting, and data visualizations to communicate safety performance effectively to leadership.

  • Utilize analytics tools and emerging technologies (e.g., AI-assisted analysis, predictive modeling concepts) to enhance insight generation and drive continuous improvement

  • Draft written safety communications for distribution across multiple business units

  • Serve as a liaison to several Safety Committees

  • Analyze company-wide safety performance data, utilizing systems such as:

    • Data Management – Cority, Assure

    • Driving – LYTX/DriveCam

    • Field Observations – Predictive Solutions

  • Present clear, actionable insights and recommendations to Southern Company Gas leadership based on data trends

Job Requirements

Education and Experience Requirements

  • BA/BS in Occupational Safety, Business Administration, Operations Research, Statistics, Environmental Science, Computer Science, or equivalent experience

  • 2+ years of experience using data analysis, statistical methods, or technical systems

  • Preferred: Experience working with data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI) and managing structured datasets

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Advanced data analysis skills with the ability to interpret large datasets and identify meaningful trends

  • Demonstrated experience building dashboards, reports, and data visualizations for business users

  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft tools including Excel, PowerPoint, and Power BI; ability to automate or streamline reporting processes

  • Functional understanding of emerging analytics tools and AI concepts (e.g., pattern recognition, predictive insights) and their practical application in a business environment

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to explain complex data insights in a clear, concise, and actionable way

  • Ability to influence and support decision-making using data-driven insights

  • Demonstrated project management and organizational skills

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment

  • Strong collaboration skills and ability to work across multiple teams
