JOB SUMMARY:

The Data Product Manager is responsible for managing, supporting, and prioritizing product enhancements, maintenance, and requests for Energy Information eXchange (EIX). EIX enables Southern Company to share data with approved customers and partners in a quick and secure manner via an API-based approach.

This role will manage implementation, adoption, and ongoing use of EIX while following agile methodologies and bridging the gap of data availability, technology, and business use cases. Further, the EIX product manager sits within a team of analytics professionals and operates as a shared service for the operating companies of Southern Company.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Education:

Required: B.S. degree in Information Technology, Engineering, Computer Science, or another technology-focused field.

Highly Preferred: Master’s degree in business, Information Technology, Engineering, Computer Science, or another technology-focused field.

Experience/Knowledge/Skills:

  • Must have a minimum of 3 years of experience in Data Product Management

  • Knowledge and experience in product management for data and insights product.

  • Experience leveraging AI productivity tools to better enable knowledge management, client support, and operational efficiency.

  • Working knowledge of utility operating company business unit processes and data sources.

  • Attention to and compliance with data governance processes.

  • Experience working with vendors and working across technology organizations.

  • Experience with metering, billing, and customer data.

  • Strong analytical, root cause analysis, and problem-solving skills with ability to elicit and efficiently document business rules and research technical issues.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and strong, proactive communications skills including the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly across different audiences and varying levels.

  • Experience working in a highly collaborative environment with cross-disciplinary teams (Requirements Analysts, Developers, Architects, and Business Analysts) and business groups (technical and non-technical) to shepherd EIX through the complete SDLC while building consensus and collaboration between teams.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment acting quickly when required. Ability to identify and quickly implement process improvements and make sound decisions; Flexible, can work under stress with changing direction and responsibilities and with minimal supervision.

  • Good planning and organization skills; Ability to prioritize backlogs comprising of new features, bugs, technical work, and knowledge acquisition.

  • Skilled at leading data sharing projects of varying sizes and degrees of complexity.

  • Highly motivated and solution oriented.

  • Experience working in cloud environments with a particular preference for Azure Databricks.

  • Firm understanding of and aptitude for technical and digital tools preferred.

  • Experience with development projects leveraging agile scrum development methodologies preferred.

MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support partner and customer access to data via EIX including onboarding, troubleshooting, and gathering feedback.

  • Manage the communication and awareness of EIX to internal stakeholders across Southern Company.

  • Drive the next version of EIX with a particular focus on modern data sharing strategies and enabling technologies.

  • Prioritize and manage the enhancements of EIX via backlog grooming.

  • Create and send partner communications around production deployments, system impacts, and any data issues.

  • Collaborate with the Technology Organization on data governance processes, security, tiering, and source system extracts.

  • Approve invoicing and provide business sign-off of vendor work.

  • Manage vendor IDs, access, permissions, and other administrative items.
