Job Summery

The Data Analytics Manager in the Grid Transformation Analytics team, part of the Enterprise Power Delivery Data Analytics organization, oversees a diverse staff comprised of technology supervisors, project managers, engineers, data analysts, data engineers, data scientists, and application developers. This manager will oversee the development and execution of data-driven analytics programs and strategies across the Power Delivery organizations at Alabama Power Company, Mississippi Power Company, and Georgia Power Company. The team collaborates with various business units within Power Delivery to create projects aimed at operational efficiency, cost reduction, enhanced customer experience, improved reliability, and preparation for future load growth. This role requires a blend of analytical expertise, business domain knowledge, strategic thinking, client relationship management, project management skills, and dedication to innovation and building new capabilities across the Southern Company Power Delivery footprint.

The manager will be responsible for building and maintaining strong relationships with other data organizations within Southern Company as well as our Technology Organization to ensure alignment of data structure and efforts throughout the company and its growing partner ecosystem. The position will be responsible for building and maintaining strong relationships with our critical vendor partners as well, to continue to deliver product development across the system.

Education:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Business, Computer Science, Data Analytics, Engineering, Statistics, or a related field is required.

  • A master’s degree in a related field and / or relevant industry certifications are preferred.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Effective communication (verbal/written), customer service, and leadership skills

  • Comprehensive consulting skills with proven ability to work with and influence others

  • Ability to handle multiple assignments and conflicting priorities

  • Ability to build productive relationships with a focus on cooperation and teamwork

  • 5+ years of experience in data and analytics organizations is preferred

  • 5+ years of leadership experience with experience managing leaders highly preferred.

  • Broad knowledge of and experience with internal company data, data systems, and data sources, as well as external data & data sources.

  • Solid understanding of relevant data analytics and AI programming languages, such as Python, SQL, R, SAS, etc.

  • Understanding of cloud technologies, such as Databricks and Azure, highly preferred.

  • Experience operating and leading in an agile project management environment preferred.

  • Experience effectively leveraging vendors, consultants, and suppliers.

  • Experience managing and prioritizing multiple projects simultaneously involving internal and external stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills with experience credibly influencing highly technical and executive audiences; the ability to simplify complex subjects and articulate value and risk in clear business terms.

  • Demonstrated ability to be detail-oriented, with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects for multiple stakeholders under tight deadlines.

  • Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies and seek connections with other leaders within the electric utility industry that are responsible for data analytics within their companies.
