The Accountant III leads advanced accounting functions and provides expert-level support in financial reporting and analysis. Responsibilities include managing high-risk or judgment-based account reconciliations, preparing full financial statements, coordinating and overseeing close processes, and ensuring compliance with GAAP, regulatory requirements, and organizational policies. This role identifies and drives process improvements, implements internal controls, and partners with cross-functional teams on budgeting, forecasting, and financial strategy. The Accountant III may mentor or supervise other accounting staff and is expected to exercise sound professional judgment with minimal supervision.

Essential Functions:
• Creates and maintains job procedures for all primary job responsibilities.
• Performs daily job duties that could include branch balancing, fixed assets, ATM/ITMs, cash accounts, monitoring clearing accounts, mortgage accounting, among other tasks.
• Maintains financial records and ensures financial transactions are properly recorded.
• Reconciles balance sheet accounts to third party supporting documentation.
• Investigates and explains month-over-month and forecast-to-actual variances for selected accounts.
• Assists in updating accounting department policies.
• Assists other staff members in answering questions, creating journal entries, and analyzing account variances.
• Assists senior accountants in their job functions such as investments, loan participations, financial reporting, forecasting, etc.

Job Qualifications
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.

Required Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or related field.
• 4+ years of related experience.
• Must be self-managed and capable of balancing multiple tasks.
• Open to change and willing to learn new skills.
• Works effectively in a team environment.
• Possesses the ability to follow up on pending issues.
• Possesses the ability to meet deadlines.
• Demonstrates strong organizational skills and a keen attention to detail.
• Possesses strong analytical skills.
• Possesses strong leadership skills.
• Intermediate level Excel experience (PivotTables, V-Lookups, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications:
• Master's degree in accounting, finance or related field.
• 6+ years of related experience.
• Interest in pursuing CPA license
• Applied knowledge of credit union or financial services systems, policies, and procedures.
