Job Description

Supervises departmental activities to achieve quality service and outcomes. Accounts for day-to-day client services activities within the laboratory, defined by a single cost center. Actively promotes a lean work culture by performing group leader duties to encourage consistent use of lean principles and processes, including continually seeking work process improvements. Assists leadership team with administrative and technical support as required. Recognizes necessity of taking ownership of own motivation, morale, performance, and professional development. Strives for behavior consistent with being committed to the lab’s and Children's Healthcare of Atlanta's mission, goals, and values.

Experience

  • 4 years of experience in a clinical laboratory setting

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in medical technology, chemical, biological, or clinical laboratory science from an accredited institution

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent

Job Responsibilities

  • Actively promotes a lean culture by performing duties to promote an understanding and consistent use of lean principals and processes to achieve quality and cost objectives.
  • Facilitates the implementation of lean process improvement ideas.
  • Performs standard work, metric reviews, audits, and gemba walks.
  • Performs duties, makes decisions, takes actions, and continually strives to improve work processes using an awareness of how work performed is valued by the customer.
  • Demonstrates expert technical and clinical knowledge and functions as a resource for staff and customers.
  • Supervises day-to-day departmental activities to achieve quality service and outcomes.
  • Performs administrative tasks and ensures services are delivered in a fiscally responsible manner through management of staff workflow, staffing, supply, and inventory.
  • Follows departmental and system policies/procedures, including those pertaining to safety and compliance.
  • Provides job breakdown sheets and encourages adherence to standard work and continual process improvement.
  • Coaches all team members and clarifies performance expectations for each member.
  • Provides timely feedback in a positive manner that supports staff success and promotes ownership and commitment.
  • Completes annual performance evaluations.
  • Interacts with other healthcare workers to provide information and identify, develop, and implement strategies that result in improvement of best lab utilization practice.
  • Ensures high level of customer (e.g., patients, families, physicians, employees, and vendors) satisfaction.
  • Performs other duties as needed.
  • Manages the day to day operations of the staff, including but not limited to: work assignments, task management, time tracking/management, and on-the-job training.
  • Takes an active role in coaching and mentoring the team to ensure continued employee growth and success both on the team and at the broader CHOA organization.
  • Assists manager with employee performance evaluations and hiring decisions.
