Job Description
The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) manager will be responsible for providing strategic organizational planning and resource allocation for APPs in hospital and ambulatory locations.
• Manages two or more APP Leads, who each manage teams of APPs across departments.
• Functions as a subject matter expert, resource, educator, and collaborator.
• Facilitates and manages operations as it relates to APPs including quality management, customer experience, productivity, fiscal, and human resources processes.
• Works collaboratively with the Advanced Practice Director and medical and department/practice leaders to ensure effective communication and coordination of care.
• Responsible for fostering a positive work environment, promoting professional development, and advocating for APPs within the organization.
• Minimum of 1.0 FTE (Full-Time) required.
Experience
- 5 years’ experience as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous supervisory or healthcare leadership experience
- Doctorate degree in Nursing Practice or Medical Science
Education
- Master’s degree in nursing
Certification Summary
- Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the single State of Georgia or Multi-State through the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) licensure in the state of Georgia or licensure as a Physician Assistant in the state of Georgia
- Certification as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse by the American Nurse Credentialing Center (ANCC), American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Board (AANP), Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (PNCB) OR Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA), (Certification as Family Nurse Practitioner may be acceptable with CNO approval)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association upon hire
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within 60 days of hire for Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants working in Emergency Medicine, Urgent Care, Anesthesia, Hematology/Oncology, and Critical Care (Nurse Practitioners or Physician Assistants working in Neonatology may provide Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification in lieu of PALS)

- Proficient knowledge of Georgia Scope of Practice, Joint Commission regulatory requirements and credentialing process of Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants

Job Responsibilities
Clinical
- Provide comprehensive patient care management within a collaborative practice model for children of all ages under the supervision of the supervising/collaborating physician within the scope of practice outlined by state statute in the inpatient and/or ambulatory settings. This includes:
- Performing comprehensive histories and physical exams and identifying normal and abnormal findings, including physical, cognitive and psychosocial status.
- Ordering and interpreting laboratory and diagnostic tests.
- Developing pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical treatment plans.
- Serving as an educational resource for patients, families, health care professionals, and students.
- Facilitating patient referrals to other medical providers, medical facilities, and other health/social service agencies as needed.
- Collaborating and/or consulting with physicians and other health care providers as appropriate.
Strategy & Operations
- Partner with medical/department practice leaders with workforce planning and contributing to provider staffing model development.
- Develop and manage productivity expectations and revenue cycle optimization.
- Responsible for compensation equity, professional advancement, quality and safety management, patient experience, and program development in collaboration with medical/department practice leadership.
- Ensure optimization and utilization of the APP role across specialties/departments; analyze current and future trends in the use of APPs to maximize top of scope practice.
- Establish departmental goals with medical and departmental/practice leaders and lead APP team to achieve them.
- Serve as department representative for the APPs in areas of physician relations, administrative relations, clinical operations.
- Facilitate the standardization and/or revision of practice protocols and therapies, policies, and processes related to APP role.
- Actively participate in the Advanced Practice Provider Shared Governance Committees.
- Operationalize organizational change initiatives and lead advanced practice providers in adapting to the rapidly changing health care environment.
Staff Management
- Conduct annual evaluations and collaborate with physicians, clinical, administrative partners and HR on performance improvement plans when needed; provide ongoing coaching and feedback.
- Partner with system and departmental leaders to manage APP staffing and scheduling to meet business needs of the division.
- Oversee and ensure APPs are compliant with credentialing process and licensure including management of FPPE and OPPE.
- Drive recruitment strategies with interviewing and hiring of APPs.
- Facilitate graduate student placement within the practice.
Professional Development
- Facilitate/create orientation materials and on-boarding for new APPs; serve as a primary resource for new hires related to discussion of role and expectations.
- Facilitate professional development of APPs by arranging activities (i.e. lecture series, grand rounds) and being available to teammates to nurture professional growth; promotes accountability and professionalism within the practice.
- Continuously conduct self-evaluations in an effort to ensure competent clinical care and continued self-development.
- Participate in clinical conferences, workshops, seminars, and related forums.
Quality and Evidence-Based Practice Behaviors
- Provide oversight for the development of quality measures and quality controls for department/practice.
- Drive results toward compliance with National Patient Safety Goals related to applicable administrative Joint Commission.
- Oversee follow-up to ONS (Occurrence Notification System) reports related to APPs.
